The ratio of air to fuel is critical for proper engine function, as too much fuel can cause the engine to run rich (excess fuel), leading to poor fuel economy and possible engine flooding, while too little fuel can cause the engine to run lean, leading to overheating, poor performance, and engine damage.
  4. Idle and Throttle Control: The carburetor has various mechanisms to regulate the engine’s idle speed and throttle response. When the driver presses the accelerator, the throttle valve inside the carburetor opens, allowing more air (and fuel) to flow into the engine. The throttle is controlled by the accelerator pedal, which adjusts the amount of fuel-air mixture entering the engine, thus controlling engine speed and power output.
  5. Choke: The choke is a valve in the carburetor that temporarily restricts airflow when the engine is cold. This creates a richer fuel mixture, helping the engine to start and warm up more easily. Once the engine reaches the proper temperature, the choke gradually opens to allow normal airflow.
